Welcome to Girdwood, Alaska - a small town with big time activities. Located just 37 miles south of Anchorage and ringed by the Chugach Mountains, Girdwood also borders the northern-most temperate rainforest in the world. With spectacular scenery and so many natural wonders right on its doorstep, Girdwood Alaska is loaded with exciting things to do and see in the summer months.

Located within the Chugach National Forest and Chugach State Park, and with original temperate rainforest and abundant alpine terrain so close to town, opportunities for hiking and mountain biking in and around Girdwood abound.
Prince William Sound with its amazing scenery, tidewater glaciers and diverse and abundant wildlife is only a 30-minute drive from Girdwood. Take a cruise aboard one of the luxurious cruise ships operating out of nearby Whittier. Cruises start from 1/2 day excursions, or for the more energetic, explore Prince William Sound in a sea-kayak.

If action on the water is more your scene, why not take a jet-boat tour up to one of the glacier lakes or take part in a rafting adventure down Glacier Creek.

If it's spectacular summer scenery you're after, take the tram to the top of Mt. Alyeska for unparalleled views of seven glaciers and the Turnagain Arm or arrange a flight-seeing tour for an aerial view. If you want to combine scenic views with adventure then maybe paragliding is the experience for you.

Whether it is halibut fishing in Prince William Sound or fishing for salmon and trout in a local river you want, Girdwood is a great base. Halibut charters are available out of Whittier only a short distance from our B&B and guided salmon and trout fishing can easily be arranged on the nearby Kenai Peninsula.
Moose are frequent visitors to our yard, as well as the occasional black bear. For close up viewing opportunities visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a non-profit organization rehabilitation center for orphaned or injured animals. You can see moose, deer, elk, black and grizzly bears, owls, bison, musk oxen and some species of wild game birds.

With an abundance of glaciers around Girdwood, dog sledding and snow machining are activities that can just as easily be enjoyed in the summer months. Hire your host, an experienced snow machine tour guide to take you on a custom adventure in the back-country

After a day’s adventures in and around Girdwood, why not make use of our infrared sauna, or sit in our hydro-therapy hot tub to relax. Or go a step further and hire your hostess, a professional massage therapist, to soothe your aching muscles with a deep tissue massage. (Discounts available to guests of Dancing Bears B&B).
